How many companies are registered in the UK each day?
21 October 2026 · Figures as of 20/10/2026
Since 09/10/2026, Ltd Edition has recorded every company incorporated at Companies House as it appears on the register. Twelve days in, the pattern is clear: Britain registers companies on weekdays.
The numbers
- Weekdays: an average of 2,806 new companies a day, between 2,091 and 3,522.
- Weekends: an average of 398, between 373 and 428.
- That's about 7 times as many on a weekday as on a Saturday or Sunday.
- In those twelve days (09/10–20/10/2026) we counted 24,042 new companies.
You can incorporate a company online on any day of the week, so the weekday peak says something about who does it: many companies are set up during office hours, often by accountants and formation agents on their clients' behalf.
Formation agents make up about a quarter
On weekdays, 24.1% of new companies were registered at a formation agent's address. At weekends that falls to 9.9%. A formation agent registers companies on behalf of clients and often lends its own address as the registered office, which is why one London address can hold tens of thousands of companies. More on formation-agent addresses.
On the live map we never plot those companies at the agent's address; they're counted separately as "registered via formation agents today".
Watch it happen
The map plays each registration as a green pulse, a few minutes after it reaches the register. The counters at the top show today's births, dissolutions and the net change. To see what's being registered near you, pick your area on the towns page.
